Engaging E-Learners Reflection

Throughout the 8 weeks we have been together, I have learned an immense amount of information that I am planning on bringing back with me to my classroom. We have discussed important topics such as: web page design, online blogging, OERs, multi-tasking vs. immersion experiences, various multimedia resources, and RLOs. The week that really stuck out for me was the 2nd screen week, where we discussed multi-taking vs. immersion for an experience.

This lesson in particular stuck with me because so often in my every day life, I am utilizing 2 screens to accomplish my goal. I utilize 2 monitors to complete homework, I utilize 2 screens while watching T.V. and playing on my phone. These activities don't require a 2nd screen to be successful, however; I enjoyed diving into the discussion of that 2nd monitor being an actual multi-tasking tool, or if it was just an immersion tool to enhance your experience. I feel this lesson was also particularly important because I feel it's important to distinguish between someone using Google to find an actresses previous movies on a phone and utilizing a second monitor during homework to research the material you're discussing in class.

This course has strengthened my ideas behind the importance of technology for our students. As we continue to rely more and more on technology in our daily life, we must prepare our students to grow up in an environment that is technologically savvy. This will ensure that they are prepared for a career that will be filled with technology, and they will not be behind the curve. Also, students find it more engaging when you prepare a lesson that has technology in it.

As I continue my career in education, I want to continue my growth and thirst for knowledge. I will continue to educate myself with courses in the future. As well as continue my quest for the best educational practices with researching articles and papers online. Furthermore; I will continue to work with my coworkers and learning from their experience they have gained in this field.

I value the lessons I have learned in this course. I am excited to bring fresh, new, and engaging ideas from this course into my classroom to increase the learning that my students will be doing. I look forward to continuing my career in education as well as continuing my education of technology as it is ever changing.

  2. Great reflection, Matthew!

This particular week, with the discussion on 2nd screens, was one that definitely came up in my reflection as well. I've found myself having numerous conversations with various individuals about this topic since we had our discussion. I'm interested to see where the future goes, particularly in education, with the ideas of 2nd screens. A lot of good partnerships could be established between companies to really immerse our students into the content, especially for our visual learners.
